This was, without a doubt, the most difficult Super Bowl for me to watch. Two teams I hate, each with no redeeming value to hang on to. I can usually find a rooting interest in one of the Super Bowl teams, but couldn’t do so this year. Yes, I am a bitter Dallas Cowboys fan, so that absolutely factors in, no question about it. But the @#$@# Giants, the @#$@#$ @#$@#$ Giants?!?!? Eli @#$@# Manning?!?!? CRAP!!!!!
Well, Eli drove the bus nice and straight, not sure why a bus driver deserves the MVP. Seems to me that all credit goes to the Giants defensive line. They kicked the crap out of the Buc, Cowboys & Packers and rode that momentum right into Tom Brady. No question about it, the Giants D-Line should be MVP’s of that game.
AAAARGH!

This year’s Super Bowl commercials were very disappointing. Only one I really enjoyed was the Doritos commercial with the mouse beating the shit out of the guy eating chips. Otherwise, very uninspired efforts all the way around.

It’s raining right now, raining hard. Here at the Workflow Studios offices, a hard rain gives us the rare opportunity to view two “natural” wonders. The Bench Geyser and the Staircase Waterfall. Using my superior photography skills and my super high tech photographic device (aka my cellphone), I snapped these pics lest the rest of the free world miss out on these awe inspiring phenomena. So, for your viewing pleasure:The Bench Geyser

Well, it’s been another lousy season as a Texas Rangers fan, but thanks to their 30-3 ass whipping of the Orioles, there’s at least something to remember in a season full of stuff to forget.

Well, I guess enough time has passed since we lost Bishop that we were ready for a new four legged critter running around the house. Also our oldest son is turning 10 and he had been hinting around that he wanted a wiener dog for his birthday. So, we welcomed our new puppy to the house this weekend. Here’s Bevo!!!

He’s a miniature dachshund and his name comes from the fact that his markings reminded us of a longhorn steer. Add to that our son’s favorite college is the University of Texas and there you have it. For those that don’t know, UT’s mascot is a longhorn and his name is Bevo. Plus, it’s funny to name something small after something large. You know, over simplistic irony. Anyway, he’s pretty darn cute and we’re really enjoying having a dog again.

Many moons ago I had posted about a site that I thought best represented to my why the web is great:
www.nutsack.com
This is a site that someone has faithfully spent money to keep up all these years and serves no real purpose, has no agenda and is sophomoric. But who is there to step up and carry on the mantle in this Web 2.0 world. Well, feast your eyes on:
www.meanspace.com
To whoever is responsible for this, “NO I DON’T!!!” and thank you, you are why the web is great!

When we made the decision to move to the country (almost 4 years ago), I knew one sacrifice would be broadband internet. We had been in an area that was among the first to get cable internet in the Dallas area, so it was a serious adjustment to go back to dial up land. Through patience and frequent 20 mile trips to the nearest Starbucks, as well making the 50 mile drive to the Workflow Studios offices, I managed. That was running my own consulting gig for a while and, of course, our photography business. While satellite has always been available, it was a poor choice that was too expensive for the value received and their bandwidth limiting policies would be a big problem for us with the need to move large amounts of image files to our printing lab. There have been a couple of fixed wireless providers pop up, but we’re a tad too rural for them and they don’t quite reach us. Our phone company has decided that it is too expensive to provide dsl to all of their customers and so they gave us the big FU.
I had previously checked into the wireless services from the cell companies and until recently, we would’ve received speed that were only marginally better than dial up but with triple the cost. However, the fine folks at Sprint have corrected this and we now have access to their EV-DO rev A service. And so, we now have, through the use of a USB card, broadband access. Took me about 15 minutes to get things setup on both my Mac and my wife’s Windows laptop. First test, streaming video, flawless. Broadband speed tests put the speed around 1mb download on average. A bit slower than dsl or cable, but don’t notice it unless downloading files and compared to dial-up, it’s fast. Upload speeds are 1 half to 2 thirds slow, which I’d like to see improve given the amount of files I transfer, but I can deal with it.
Sure some people I know have been enjoying their fiber connections and reveling in transfering gigabytes of data so fast it gets there before they even decide they need it, but that’s their problem
So nice and thank you Sprint for recognizing that business doesn’t stop in the suburbs, that there is money to be had a little farther out where all us country bumpkins live.

Ok, I’ll give in to tagging pressure and continue this, although I’m not going to tag anyone because I have to be somewhat of a killjoy just for grins. Anyway, I’ve limited this list to only those discs I actually own, so there’s many better I’m not going to list, but I don’t want to do any real research. In no particular order:
Hells Bells - AC/DC - Back in Black (hard rock gets no better, an album that never sounds old)
These Arms of Mine - Otis Redding - The Very Best of Otis Redding (yeah best ofs are kinda cheating, but leaving Otis off this list would’ve caused me great pain)
On The Way Home - Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall (a new disc of an old concert, but this is the Neil I love, Tell My Why is my favorite track on this)
Waiting for the Sun - The Jayhawks - Hollywood Town Hall (I’m a fan of alt-country, stuff you’d never hear on the radio, The Jayhawks started me down that road (well them and Nashville era Neil Young))
Easy Plateau - Ryan Adams - Bootleg (kinda a cheat like best of, but this opening track from a live show features the lyrical and melodic greatness of an artist I’ve become quite fond of lately, another alt-country artist)
So much is missing from this list due to my Sunday afternoon laziness. Really, no Hendrix or Clapton, can’t be trusted, can I.

I have switched. My trusted Sony Vaio laptop died this week. It was sudden and final. After doing very little research I decided to go Mac and got a MacBook Pro. It was a strange experience to say the least. Now I’m not joining the Cult of Apple, but to this point I’m very happy with my choice. I’ve got XP running in the Parallels vm and can do all my day to day work very easily. It took me all of 4 hours to get everything up and running and be back at work. When you consider I’ve never really used a Mac, that’s pretty impressive. Performance is no issue either, the thing pretty much flies. Still learning my way around, but without much difficulty. Haven’t had time to really dig into it yet, but looking forward to. I hope my Mac using friends who I’ve ragged on over the years have mercy on me. But, if you decide to give me a hard time, go right ahead, I deserve it and you were right.

It’s appropriate that there is fog this morning as there is a fog of shame over the DFW metroplex today. The shame of being fans of the Dallas Mavericks. The shame of believing that we had a special team that was destined for a championship. The horror, the horror.
